LISTEN Michael Louth: The Scottish student with a new way to tackle gambling addiction

Updated: Jan 9, 2021

22 year old Edinburgh Napier University student Michael Louth has been researching a potential gap in the market for tackling gambling addiction, particularly in football.

Michael has come up with the idea of setting up a football team to act as a community in fighting against gambling addiction and betting sponsorship in football.

He believes this would be a 'less stigmatised' mode of therapy for those with gambling issues who are put off by more traditional ideas like Gamblers Anonymous groups.

Along with this initial idea, Michael made the football kit shown to raise awareness of gambling addiction in the UK, through a new and more engaging method.

The shirt is made up of betting slips containing grim statistics and quotes related to this UK epidemic.

Listen below to hear Michael talk about his motivations behind the project.
